Carcassonne - paen to place

Although there were mid-week markets in Place Carnet, they were not a patch on these Saturday markets. We have been flying out of Sydney on a Saturday and arriving in France on the Sunday. This seemed to set up a pattern of having weekly accommodation that started on a Sunday. Hence, the best markets were the day BEFORE we left each place. What a waste!

This was an exclusively produce market. My preference. The markets in Italy had a combination of produce and goods, with the latter being mass produced and often made in China. Defeats the purpose of going to a market, I reckon. Carcassonne had excellent boulangeries and Chez Felix - on Place Carnet - had nice coffee and red wine. The red wine in France is cheaper than the coffee.

Markets always make for great photos. We went to the farmers market in Mudgee recently, saw the same man as I photographed in Portland. I don't care two hoots for the goods but the produce is often worth buying.

It's fantastic to photograph the daily life of a market full of people and colors.

Oooo - this all looks interesting.
What's that in photo 8?
I can't work out what it is!

Photo 8 is raw beetroot. It is such a wizened vegie the way the French leave it so long. I was astounded by the texture of the flesh, that alone the colour.

Well, I'll be.
Maybe it intensifies the sugar.

I will find a photo of the uncut and post it so you can compare.
